Plot 7b - Gary & Sarah Moulton
Sustainability Enthusiasts

New to the allotments in 2020, this is Sarah & Gary’s first summer on their plot & already they’ve made tremendous progress.

They’re very keen on developing ways to grow their food whilst causing little or no harm to the natural world or living creatures.

‘We believe in doing what we can towards saving the planet so we avoid using single use plastics & anything that is not bio degradable.

Plans for next year include several projects to reduce the amount of water used to water the plants & install a watering system which does not require any power to distribute water across the plot.’

  • Chilli Peppers - the Scotch Bonnet

  • Water Melon - Champagne

in their newly built greenhouse, Sarah & Gary are growing Scotch bonnet Chilli peppers.

‘These Chilli peppers are very hot. The Scotch bonnet peppers are 40 times hotter than jalapeno peppers. Most often featured in products such as “jerk seasoning”, scotch bonnet chocolate truffles, pepper powder, salsa & pickles. Although hot it has a very aromatic flavour & brings out a great taste in any dish.

It’s also reported to have health benefits including congestion relief & weight loss. High in vitamins A, C & K, contains antioxidant, copper & iron.’

Inside their greenhouse you’ll also find a very unusual yellow water melon called Champagne.

‘This is the most delicious watermelon you will ever taste. This variety of watermelon is approx. 4 kg in weight. The outer rind is light green with dark green stripes. The flesh is yellow and tender with a juicy, sweet flavour. ‘
